Shady Oaks Country Club to Host Inaugural Ben Hogan Cup Matches

June 1st, 2016

DALLAS, Texas -- Shady Oaks Country Club, the Northern Texas PGA and Southern Texas PGA are pleased to announce the inaugural Ben Hogan Junior Cup Matches at Shady Oaks Country Club. The event will be an annual competition between the Northern and Southern Texas PGA Junior Tours’ top six boys and top six girls aged 13-18. The Matches will provide a unique, one of a kind experience for each Tour’s best playing junior golfers.

The Ryder Cup style format will feature 12 junior golfers from each Tour competing in 18-hole Four-Ball and Alternate Shot Matches the first day followed by 18-hole Singles Matches the final day.  Shady Oaks Country Club will host, and the Northern Texas PGA will conduct the Matches each year.  The inaugural Matches are set for July 18-19 at the historic Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth.  Established in 1958, Shady Oaks Country Club has a rich history including being the longtime home for the tournament’s namesake, Ben Hogan.

“Mr. Hogan always enjoyed seeing young golfers play the game here at Shady Oaks Country Club and I know he would be a huge supporter of these Matches,” said Mike Wright, Director of Golf at Shady Oaks Country Club. “Our members and staff are excited to host the inaugural Ben Hogan Junior Cup Matches at Shady Oaks Country Club and look forward to continuing this tradition many years to come.”

Members from the Northern Texas PGA and Southern Texas PGA teams will qualify to compete via All American Tour and Prestige Tour events respectively.  Champions from each Tour’s first tournaments in the summer will solidify their spot on the team as well as the top point earners, not otherwise qualified from the first tournaments in the summer.

“This is such a unique experience for these top quality young golfers,” said Mike Ray Executive Director of the Southern Texas PGA.  “These Matches give our better players something to shoot for during the summer and also opens their eyes to different styles of competition while preparing them for college golf.”

Northern Texas PGA Executive Director / CEO, Mark Harrison stated, “Our partners at the Legends Junior Tour have the Jackie Burke Cup Matches that are a must-play in for the best kids in the state. We hope to emulate the same comradery, sportsmanship and competition for kids that play on the All American and Prestige Tours with the Ben Hogan Junior Cup Matches. We could not ask for a more committed and dedicated host facility for the matches and I’m excited for what is in store for the kids who are fortunate to make the team this inaugural year. It’s going to be incredibly special.”
