Little Linksters Summer Preview Recap

May 21st, 2018

The Forest Course at the Clubs of Kingwood played host to 62 STPGA junior golfers on Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20 in the first Little Linksters tournament of the 2018 summer – the Summer Preview. Battling through the heat in the first round and two separate weather delays in the final round, five golfers were able to top their peers, persevering through the difficult weather conditions to take home the title in their respective divisions.

Jackson Funkhauser recorded a two-day total of 77 (+5) to take the victory in the Boys 11-12 Division. Funkhauser was propelled to victory after an impressive final round score of 34, which featured three birdies on the 1st, 5th, and 9th holes. His stellar performance on Sunday led to him winning by two strokes over Jaxson Daniele, who also had a solid final round showing, shooting an even-par 36 on Sunday.

Kingwood’s very own Bella Flores fired an under-par round of her own on Sunday leading to the first-place prize. Flores took the Girls 11-12 Division after she shot 35 in the final round, which following her 38 on Saturday, gave her a total score of 73 (+1). Flores’ great play led to her being victorious by ten strokes over her nearest challenger, Khloe Jones, a fellow Kingwood resident.

Evan Rohde emerged as the winner in the Boys 9-10 Division following a scorecard playoff against Tyler Chi. Rohde and Chi both shot a total score of 75 (+3), but it was Rohde’s Sunday score of 37 that gave him the edge with Chi shooting a final round score of 39.

In the Girls 9-10 Division, Natasha Milinthachinda and London Fowlkes both had significant improvements on Sunday, but ultimately it was Milinthachinda posting rounds of 45 and 40 combining for 85 (+13), that edged out Fowlkes’ scores of 49 and 39 for a combined 88 (+16).

William Carlson was the best of the 6-8 Co-ed Division after he shot a combined score of 89 (+17). Nicholas Sapien finished second to Carlson after recording a total score of 98 (+26).
