STPGA Junior Golf Wraps Up Summer Series

August 9th, 2018

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS – For the second year in a row, the Southern Texas PGA Junior Championship presented by Bridgestone Golf and TopGolf took place at The Woodlands Country Club – Palmer Course on Wednesday, August 8 and Thursday, August 9. The Championship was the final tournament of the summer and is the most prestigious Championship the Section conducts each year. The event featured 253 of the most talented junior golfers in South Texas ages 6-18.

The summer season saw over 340 tournaments held throughout South Texas and consisted of over 3,100 participants.
Round 2 saw three sudden-death playoffs, the Junior Tour Boys 15-18 Division, the Junior Tour Boys 11-12 Division, and the Little Linksters Boys 9-10 Division.

Officials suspended play at 2:10 p.m. due to lightning in The Woodlands area. Play resumed at 3:20 p.m., but unfortunately was suspended once again at 5:02 p.m. due to inclement weather in the area. Play resumed at 6:45 p.m., but due to impending darkness, the Committee made the decision to adjust scoring for three divisions.

The Junior Tour Boys 13-14 Division was shortened to an 18-hole competition, while the competitions for both the Junior Tour Girls 11-12 and Girls 15-18 Divisions were each shortened to 27-hole events.
