The Bridgestone Golf Prestige Tour wrapped up its spring break road trip this week with the Spring Break Classic at the Onion Creek Club in Austin. The two-day event spanning Sunday and Monday offered juniors a chance to compete and keep their game sharp while on break.
While Onion Creek proved to be a test for some, Tate Fleming
(Pasadena) proved he was up to the challenge. The only player in red figures, Fleming put together rounds of 70-67 for a three-under-par total of 137, and claiming the Boys 15-18 division by eight shots. En route to his win, Fleming also secured his spot in both the HP Byron Nelson Junior Championship and Texas State Junior Championship.
Consistency was the name of the game for Evan Vo
(Austin) as he shot scores of 74-75 for a two-day total of 149, edging out Dallas Hankamer
(Temple) and Reid Powell
(Lakeway) to win the Boys 13-14 division and claim the exemption into the George Hannon Invitational.
The action for the girls was thrilling as Jessica Rogina
(Houston) and Lauren Cox
(Orange) went back and forth shooting identical two-day totals of 157 and ultimately needing extra holes to determine the winner. The eventual winner, Rogina came out on top, winning on the third playoff hole with a par to earn top spot in the Girls 15-18 Division as well as claim a spot in the Shell Houston Open Junior.
(Richmond) earned her third consecutive victory on the Bridgestone Golf Prestige Tour after posting scores of 83-78 to win the Girls 13-14 division by three strokes.
