Southern & Northern Texas PGA Announce 7th Texas Junior Cup Matches Teams

SPRING, TEXAS  – The Southern and Northern Texas PGA Sections announced the 2018 Texas Junior Cup Matches presented by TCG Advisors teams on Thursday. This annual competition between the two sister Sections’ top six boys and top six girls aged 9-12 will be the seventh meeting and is slated for September 29-30 at Big Easy Ranch in Columbus, Texas.

The Ryder Cup-style format features close matches, dramatic shots, uncompromising sportsmanship, and new friendships. Juniors compete in 9-Hole Four-Ball and 9-Hole Scramble Matches the first day, followed by 9-hole Singles Matches the final day to provide a one-of-a-kind experience for all.

“We are delighted that TCG Advisors has agreed to present the 7th Texas Junior Cup Matches,” said Thomas Hutton, Executive Director of the Southern Texas PGA. “The Matches were intended to provide a unique, one-of-a-kind experience for each Section’s younger and more experienced junior golfers and with the support of TCG we will be able to enhance the event even more.”

Members from the Southern Texas PGA team qualify to compete via Little Linksters and Junior Tour Spring and Summer Championships, while Northern Texas PGA team members will qualify via All American Tour, Texas Boys and Girls PGA Championship, and the Summer Series Championship.

The Southern Texas PGA team will be led by Landa Park Golf Course’s PGA Director of Golf Chad Donegan. Donegan brings a sense of strategy to the Ryder Cup-style event as he was part of the 2013 and 2017 STPGA Texas Joe Black Cup Matches teams.

"I am excited to be a part of the Texas Junior Cup Matches and honored to Captain the STPGA team,” said Donegan. “I look forward to a great competition this year and am anticipating the start of the Matches in September."

The Northern Texas PGA team will be led by Blake Trahan, Coordinator of All American Tour Operations.

"I am excited and honored to lead the Northern Texas PGA team at this year's Texas Junior Cup Matches," said Trahan. "These Matches are a great way for some of our best junior golfers to gain experience in a unique team format, and they are always competitive and fun! I think our team is really good this year, it should make for an exciting weekend."

In last year’s meeting, STPGA secured key matches early, however, NTPGA went 4-2 in the Scramble Matches and 7-5 in the Single Matches to clinch the Cup. The Northern Texas PGA leads the Matches with a 5-1-0 overall record.
