SPRING, TEXAS ---
Hanna Alberto, Southern Texas PGA Junior Golf alumnus and current member of the Sam Houston State University Women’s Golf team, will take part in the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur this week in Georgia.
Established by Augusta National Golf Club, this annual championship will feature 72 players invited based on their position in the Women's World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and performance at various recognized tournaments.
The Kingwood native played in the Southern Texas PGA Junior Golf program from 2011 until she graduated from Kingwood Park High School in 2016. In that time, Alberto won the STPGA Junior Championship in 2012 and 2013, and finished in the top-5 at 33 events.
“The competitiveness of STPGA tournaments was great,” said Alberto. “They definitely helped prepare me for bigger tournaments.”
The first two rounds, starting Wednesday, April 3 will be held at the Champions Retreat Golf Club. Only the top-30 players advance to the final round. However, all participants will be able to experience the historic Augusta National Golf Club during a practice round on Friday, April 5. The Champion will be crowned after 54 holes on Saturday, April 6, when the final round is played at the legendary host venue of the Masters Tournament.
“I’m excited I get to be at and play Augusta National,” said Alberto. “I am looking forward to playing Hole 12.”
Hanna will hit the links for Round One at 9:36 a.m. CST alongside Emma Spitz of Austria and Jaravee Boonchant of Thailand. The group will then tee off for Thursday’s second round at 8:36 a.m. CST.
