This year’s amount is an all-time high for PGA REACH Southern Texas Scholarship Program!

SPRING, TEXAS – The PGA REACH Southern Texas Scholarship Program is excited to announce the awarding of 42 scholarships amounting to $168,000 to 36 individual people today! This amount is an increase of $45,000 compared to last year as well as 11 more scholarships! These funds will help these 36 young adults continue their academic career during the 2022-2023 school year!

“The STPGA as a whole has meant a lot to me. It’s like family at this point,” said Ty Roberts, winner of the Jeff Morton and JL Lewis Scholarship. “Being chosen for these scholarships means the world, because it allows me to focus on my golf career as well as my academics.”

Since 1999, the PGA REACH Southern Texas Scholarship Program has awarded more than 425 scholarships and over $1,480,500 to young adults seeking higher education. Scholarships are given to graduating high school seniors and current college students who demonstrate high levels of achievement and outstanding character.

“Reaching another record high amount for scholarships shows how supportive our Southern Texas golf community is in impacting these young adults’ lives,” said Thomas Hutton, Executive Director STPGA. “We can’t thank our Trustees enough for their continued support of this program.”

We would like to specifically recognize the Hannon Cup Association for their $50,000 investment this year which yielded 5 scholarships at $10,000 each. We also want to thank Energy Transfer and the Energy Transfer Texas Senior Open for their $24,000 investment as well as the Cimarron Hills Pro-Am that supports the JL Lewis Scholarship and their $16,000 donation.

We also want to welcome four new scholarships that involve PGA Professionals, the overall game of golf in Texas, and names that continue to live on! Thank you to the Texas Golf Hall of Fame and the first ever Joe Black Scholarship, the Burke Family for the Eddie Burke Sr. Scholarship, PGA Professional Jim Murphy for giving back, and Past President of the STPGA Charlie Epps! We also want to thank all of our returning trustees and scholarships that make this program what it is today!

Each scholarship name listed below helps continue a tradition of giving back and also honoring an individual or organization that believes in the next generation! Scholarships positively impact lives with each scholarship ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.

Houston, TX (May 14, 2026) - The Southern Texas PGA Junior Golf program is excited to announce a new exemption for 2026. The winner of the Boys and Girls Division at the Insperity Tour Championship for the Srixon Prestige Tour will earn an exemption to play at The Greenwood Cup Junior Invitational hosted at River Oaks Country Club in Houston, TX. Over the past decade, The Greenwood Cup has welcomed many of the game's rising stars, including Blades Brown, Farah O'Keefe, Pierceson Coody and Rachel Heck, among many others. The tournament features a Boys and Girls Division, with a four-ball team format. Invited players have the opportunity to pick a partner of their choice. The Insperity Tour Championship winners will receive an invitation to this year's tournament on October 23-25, 2026. "We would like to thank the Tournament Committee at River Oaks, including Tournament Chairman, Stuart Wallace and Director of Golf, Matt Swarts, for offering this exemption," said Thomas Hutton, Executive Director of the STPGA. "This not only adds to the reasons why juniors should try to qualify for the PT Tour Championship on July 20-21 at Boot Ranch, but also highlights River Oaks' commitment to growing the game. This first-class tournament is an event the players will remember for many years." Both our Boys and Girls winners at the Insperity Tour Championship can pick a partner of their choice, pending approval from the Greenwood Cup Committee, and enjoy the first class experience at River Oaks CC in Houston, TX. This is an unbelievable opportunity for STPGA Junior Golfers to earn another exemption for playing Srixon Prestige Tour events! Click here to find out more information about The Greenwood Cup.
