Abraham Ancer Helps STPGA Grow the Game!

Former STPGA Junior Golfer turned World Class Professional Golfer commences a new relationship for 2024 around junior golf and scholarships!

SPRING, TX (NOVEMBER 28, 2023) - The Southern Texas PGA is excited to announce a new partnership with Professional Golfer, Abraham Ancer. This new partnership includes involvement with the Srixon Billiard Factory Prestige Tour, STPGA College Scholarships, as well as Junior Golf Grants to get the next generation of golfers into the sport.

This new partnership will bring forth the first ever Srixon Billiard Factory Prestige Tour event in Abraham Ancer’s honor starting in 2024. The new Abraham Ancer Turkey Shootout will take place the week of Thanksgiving starting in 2024 in the San Antonio area. We are excited to announce the first Abraham Ancer Turkey Shootout will take place at Oak Hills Country Club November 25-26, 2024. The goal with this event is to create a unique experience for our Junior Golfers and provide access to world-class venues.

“This is so exciting for junior golf and players from Southern Texas,” said Thomas Hutton, Executive Director of the STPGA. “Abraham grew up in Southern Texas and he is now giving back to the next generation of golfers!”

In addition, Abraham Ancer will also commence a new college scholarship through the STPGA’s Scholarship Program. With Abraham’s support, the STPGA will have a lasting effect not only on the individual who is looking to further their education, but on their entire family. The first Abraham Ancer scholarship will be awarded in May when all STPGA Scholarships are announced. All graduating Seniors and current college students are encouraged to apply when the application period opens in January!

“The STPGA does an awesome job growing the game, providing scholarships, and running high quality events,” said Ancer who was born in McAllen, TX and raised in Reynosa, Mexico. Ancer grew up playing at Reynosa Country Club and traveled to South Texas to compete in STPGA events, where he was the STPGA Valley Area Champion for his division in 2005. “I feel it is only right to give back, get engaged with the next generation, and make a difference!”

Lastly, this partnership will continue to bring more golfers to the game through a Junior Golf Grant. With Abraham’s partnership, the STPGA will provide financial support to juniors each summer that have participated in Drive, Chip, and Putt but have never played in an STPGA tournament. Our goal is to create lifelong golfers and through this grant we will help further these junior golfer’s journey with the game by providing them with a free membership into the STPGA Junior Golf program as well as a $50 credit towards their first STPGA event.

Today’s announcement is exciting as we welcome Abraham Ancer into the STPGA family, and we look forward to the impact of this partnership in Junior Golf in Southern Texas!
