LA PORTE, TEXAS (October 8–9, 2022) -
The Bay Forest Junior Championship was played at Bay Forest Golf Club on October 8th and 9th. This Prestige Tour event consisted of 95 eager golfers all wanting to claim the win.
In the girls division, Peyton DeBruin of Houston, played two very competitive rounds this weekend. DeBruin came out of round one tied for second at (+4) 76 and eager to prove herself in round two. Her scores on day two spoke for themselves, earning one birdie, one bogey, one double bogey, and the 15 pars to finish with a 36 hole tournament total of (+6) 150 to claim the championship title by just one stroke. This win puts DeBruin at 6 first place wins in 2022 alone, and 21 total wins for the STPGA since starting back in 2014.
On Sunday October 9th, Matthew VanHoy of League City, walked away victorious. VanHoy had a promising first round after sinking an eagle and three birdies to climb the leaderboard. He sat tied for second heading into his second round with an 18-hole total of (-1) 71. He came back even stronger for round two, scoring 6 birdies, to secure his lead in the boys 15-18 division.VanHoy finished with an impressive tournament total of (-5) 139 to claim the championship title. This is VanHoy’s first championship title of 2022,12th STPGA win and his 49th time placing since 2011.
