Eleven Champions Named at 2020 STPGA Junior Championship

Eleven champions were named at the 2020 STPGA Junior Championship at The Woodlands Country Club (Palmer Course). Presented by AHEAD and Sam Houston State University’s PGA Golf Management Program, this year’s field was one of the largest this annual event has seen bringing in more than 270 junior golfers ages 6-18 from across Southern Texas.
This year’s Championship took place on Wednesday, August 5th – Thursday, August 6th. Over these two days, players in the Little Linksters program played a total of 18-holes on the Deacon Course and Junior Tour players competed over 36-holes on the King and General Courses.
In the Little Linksters Co-Ed 6-8 Division, Carter Hoskins of Corpus Christi claimed the Championship title with an even-to-par score of 72, defeating the Round One leader, Tristan Panyanouvong of Tomball who came in second place at 74 (+2).
“It feels really good to win,” said Hoskins. “I’ve been working hard towards this all summer long.” The Little Linksters Girls 9-10 Division saw Kingwood’s Katelyn Davis make a comeback from two spots back to capture the win with a two-day total of 77 (+5).
“This is for my grandpa who recently passed away,” said Davis. “This win is for him.” JP Lynch of Austin was able to hold on to his Round One lead in the Little Linksters Boys 9-10 Division claiming the title after shooting rounds of 34-35 for a two-day total of 69 (-3).
“This was my first tournament where I was able to shoot both rounds under par,” said Lynch. “It’s a really nice feeling.”
“It feels really good to win,” said Hoskins. “I’ve been working hard towards this all summer long.” The Little Linksters Girls 9-10 Division saw Kingwood’s Katelyn Davis make a comeback from two spots back to capture the win with a two-day total of 77 (+5).

In addition to the 2020 Junior Championship titles, the 6 remaining spots on the Texas Junior Cup Matches STPGA team were up for grabs at this year’s event. The first-place finishers of the Little Linksters Girls and Boys 11-12 Divisions and the top two finishers in the Junior Tour Girls and Boys 11-12 Division earned their spots on the 2020 STPGA team.
Jules Mahan of San Antonio defeated fellow San Antonian, Michelle Lee in a sudden-death playoff after both carded a 69 (-3), earning her the Junior Championship title as well as a spot on the Texas Junior Cup team. Lee, who earned her exemption earlier this year, will also be playing on Team STPGA at the Matches in September.
“I worked hard for this,” said Mahan. “It was fun playing with Michelle today, I can’t wait to play with her again.”
The Little Linksters Boys 11-12 Division also saw a sudden-death playoff when Mont Belvieu’s Brent Mauer tied with Jackson Sledzik of Needville at 74 (+2). Mauer was victorious in the playoff taking home the Championship title and invitation to the Matches.
O n the Junior Tour side of the tournament, the other four Texas Junior Cup Matches exemptions were earned. The first two being awarded in the Girls 11-12 Division to Syna Nijhawan of Houston and Tangia Gan of The Woodlands. Nijhawan was the first-place winner with a 36-hole total of 152 (+8); runner-up, Gan carded 158 (+14).
“It feels really good to see my hard work paying off,” said Nijhawan.

Kingwood’s Khloe Jones was crowned the Junior Tour Girls 13-14 Division winner after shooting one-over-par during Round Two to overcome Round One leader Kenna Lee of Bellaire with a final score of 147 (+3). Lee finished the tournament in second place at 151 (+7).
Shiv Parmar of Selma captured the Junior Tour Boys 13-14 Division win after shooting a 36-hole total of 145 (+1). Coming into the final round, Parmar was tied for second place.
“It feels great to finish on top when you’re playing against a group of really good players,” said Parmar.

2019 STPGA Junior Golfer of the Year, Ty Roberts of Cibolo celebrated his 119th STPGA Junior Golf tournament win after coming in at the top of the Junior Tour Boys 15-18 Division leaderboard with a two-day total of 137 (-7). Roberts, who had previously claimed titles at the STPGA Spring and Fall Series Championships sought the 2020 Junior Championship win to complete his Championship “set”.

Good Afternoon, Players, Parents, & Family Friends, 11 incredible months have passed - it’s time to finish this year on a high note! Srixon Prestige Tour Champions - November November kicked off at Forest Creek Golf Club for The Round Rock Cup, where Cole Gailys of Austin, TX shined with back-to-back under-par rounds to capture his first Prestige Tour victory. In the Girls Division, Rachel Turk of Austin, TX delivered the weekend’s lone even-par round, sealing her first Srixon Prestige Tour title of 2025 in impressive fashion. From there, the Srixon Prestige Tour headed east just across state lines for the Visit Lake Charles Fall Classic at Mallard Golf Club in Lake Charles, LA. Joshua Szynski of New Braunfels, TX battled steady winds to notch his first career Srixon Prestige Tour win, finishing +1 after carding a birdie on the 36th hole of the tournament. Meanwhile, Caileigh Royer of Mont Belvieu, TX took her Round 1 lead into Round 2 where she would then claim her second Srixon Prestige Tour win of 2025. The month wrapped up with not one, not two, but THREE Championships taking place just before Thanksgiving! Beginning just north of Houston, Joanna Kim of Langley, British Columbia and Jackson Tennant of Austin, TX walked away as The Gobbler Cup Champions at Elkins Lake Country Club. Next, we look at the history made in San Antonio for the 2nd Abraham Ancer Classic at Oak Hills Country Club where Gavin Swearengin of San Antonio, TX takes home his first title and Aly Esparza of Laredo, TX claims her second Championship of 2025. Last but not least, Blane Arnim of Katy, TX & Sophia Liu of Sugar Land, TX found a way to enter the holiday season on a high note from their excellent play at Bay Oaks Country Club.
