Southern Texas PGA wins the Cup at the 10th Annual Texas Junior Cup Matches

WALLER, TX (September 26, 2021) - The Southern Texas PGA team was victorious over the Northern Texas PGA team at the 10th Annual Texas Junior Cup Matches presented by TCG Advisors by an overall point total of 15 to 9. Team STPGA led the matches by six points following the first day of competition, and with a close day two session of Singles Matches, Team STPGA was able to secure the cup.


Key victories for Team STPGA on day one came from Joshua Szynski and Carly Marshall during the 4-Ball Matches who won their match 2&1 against Reid Habermehl and Sasha Periagram from Team NTPGA. Team STPGA finished day one with five points from the 4-Ball Matches and four points from the Scramble Matches taking a commanding lead of 9-3. 


“These were unbelievable matches and the kids played so well,” said STPGA Team Captain EJ Kim, PGA. “It was great to see such tremendous sportsmanship, camaraderie and high quality play from everyone.”


Day two of the Texas Junior Cup Matches saw much closer matches as Team STPGA and Team NTPGA each received six points in their Single Matches. Team STPGA won the cup when Lindy Gan won her match 1UP against Elizabeth Bellendir. 

 

The Texas Junior Cup Matches is an annual competition between the Southern Texas PGA and the Northern Texas PGA Sections. The Ryder Cup-style format features teams represented by 12 junior golfers under the age of 12 who earned their exemptions into this event through various tournaments in each Section. The teams competed in Four-Ball and Scramble Matches day one and Singles Matches the final day. 


EJ Kim, PGA Teaching Professional at Axis Golf Academy served as Team STPGA’s captain for the first time, and Vince Bove, PGA Program Lead - Drive, Chip and Putt, and PGA Family Cup served as Team NTPGA’s captain for the third year.


This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Texas Junior Cup Matches with the inaugural matches taking place in 2012 at Northwood Club in Dallas, Texas. Team STPGA’s win this year brings the overall record to Team STPGA 4-5-1 and Team NTPGA 5-4-1. The 2021 matches were contested at Sand Hill Farm Golf Course, a unique 9-hole private course created by the Tucker family, founders of Mustang Cat, and designed by former professional golfer, Peter Jacobsen.

San Antonio, TX (June 15-16, 2026) – The Srixon Prestige Tour made its way to San Antonio this week for the Boys & Girls Junior PGA Championship #2 at The Quarry Golf Course. While rain pushed back the start of competition on day one, players remained patient and ready to compete. Kingsland, TX (June 8-9, 2026) – The Srixon Prestige Tour traveled to Kingsland, Texas, for the Bluebonnet Classic, held at Legends Golf Course. Over two days of competition, players from across Southern Texas put their skills to the test across 36 holes, competing for division titles, valuable points, and championship exemptions. The event showcased some of the region's top junior talent and provided another exciting stop on the Prestige Tour schedule as golfers continued their pursuit of success throughout the 2026 season. In addition to the division champions earning exemptions, two more players secured valuable opportunities through their performances at the Bluebonnet Classic. Jackson Tennant earned exemptions into the Hannon-Fields Junior Invitational and Ben Hogan Junior Cup Matches, while Caleb Patrick claimed an exemption into the 2026 Insperity Tour Championship. Both players put together strong performances over the two-day event and will have the chance to compete on some of junior golf's biggest stages later this year. The tournament saw the first exemption given out to the Southern Texas girls for the Junior PGA Championship, alongside exemptions to the Ben Hogan Junior Cup Matches, the Hannon-Fields Junior Invitational on the Legends Junior Tour, and The Insperity Tour Championship! The 2026 Junior PGA Championship will be held July 28-31 at Fields Ranch in Frisco. The course will also host the 2027 PGA Championship as it returns to Texas!
