STPGA Announces 2026 Ben Hogan Cup Matches #TeamSTPGA Captain!

Spring, TX (June 26, 2026) - The Southern Texas PGA has named James Devore captain of Team STPGA for the 2026 Ben Hogan Junior Cup Matches.

Devore's journey with the Southern Texas PGA began in 2012 when he competed in his first Little Linksters event. He later advanced through the Section's junior golf pathway, earning three Srixon Prestige Tour victories before representing Team STPGA in the 2023 Ben Hogan Junior Cup Matches. Now attending the United States Naval Academy, Devore returns to the event in a new role as captain.

"It means a great deal to be selected as captain of Team STPGA during this year's Ben Hogan Junior Cup," Devore said. "I played for Team STPGA three years ago, and it's a full-circle moment to now captain a great group of golfers. It means a lot that the Prestige Tour staff has placed its trust in me to lead this team during such a storied event."

The Ben Hogan Junior Cup Matches will be held Aug. 3-4 at Dallas Athletic Club. Modeled after the Ryder Cup, the annual competition features 12 of the Southern Texas PGA's top junior golfers, six boys and six girls ages 11-18, competing against the Northern Texas PGA in 18-hole Four-Ball and 9-hole Foursomes Matches on the first day followed by 18-hole Singles Matches on the final day.

As captain, Devore is looking forward to helping players prepare for one of the premier team competitions in Texas junior golf while allowing them to embrace the experience.

"This is a great leadership opportunity, but what I'm really looking forward to is providing the players with a great competitive experience," Devore said. "I'll help them however I can during the practice round and matches, but I'm really excited to see the great display of talent from the players."

Devore believes the qualities that define Team STPGA extend beyond talent.

"I'm looking for hard-working, highly competitive players," he said. "Every year the Prestige Tour sends phenomenal players to represent Team STPGA, and I think good golfers and good people are the foundation for any successful team."

His own experience in the program shaped that perspective. After beginning in Little Linksters and competing throughout the Southern Texas PGA junior golf pathway, Devore encourages young golfers to compete as often as possible and embrace every opportunity to improve.

"The only way to shoot better scores in tournaments is to play a lot of competitive golf," Devore said. "Make qualifying for the Ben Hogan Junior Cup Team a goal, and make every shot count. You learn a lot about your game when things aren't going your way, but it's important to keep fighting and carry that momentum into the next round or tournament."

One memory from his time as a player still stands out.

"My favorite memory was birdieing the 18th hole during my singles match and winning 1 up," Devore said. "Although Team STPGA didn't come away with the victory that week, it was a great experience competing against our Northern Texas PGA counterparts."

For Devore, the Ben Hogan Junior Cup Matches offer an experience unlike any other on the junior golf calendar.

"This event is special because it gives players the chance to compete in a Ryder Cup-style event against our friendly NTPGA rivals," Devore said. "We don't get many opportunities to play match play, so competing at remarkable venues with outstanding players is a highlight of many junior golf careers. It's also great to see the support surrounding the event and the players."

The Section is proud to welcome James Devore back to Team STPGA and looks forward to his leadership as captain at this year's Ben Hogan Junior Cup Matches.
