Solis and Lundgren Win Annual Award!

SPRING, TX (November 1, 2023) – The Southern Texas PGA is excited to announce this year’s two Junior Golf of the Year Award Winners. These exceptional young golfers have displayed extraordinary talent, dedication, and sportsmanship on the green, setting the standard for excellence in junior golf.

The winners are John Solis of Laredo, TX and Danica Lundgren of Austin, TX.

The selection process for the Junior Golfer of the Year Awards commences with nominations from PGA Professionals and then is determined by the STPGA Awards Committee which is made up of last year’s STPGA Section Award Winners. The winners were chosen based on their outstanding performance, consistent growth in their game, and their positive contributions to the golf community.

Solis has been a member of the Southern Texas PGA since 2018 and has had 2 victories on our Srixon Billiard Factory Prestige Tour during his time. Solis was also 1st on the Prestige Tour points list in 2022. Solis exhibits qualities of leadership, humility, and responsibility both on and off the course. He is a stellar example of overcoming any hurdles that are put in front of him and achieving his dreams.

“Golf means everything to John,” said Thomas Hutton, Executive Director of the STPGA. “He is always extremely polite to our staff, appreciative of our hard work, and a joy to be around.”

After graduating in the spring, Solis will be heading to the University of Michigan and we cannot wait to continue to see him grow and develop.

Our girl’s winner, Danica Lundgren, has been playing with the STPGA since 2015 and has truly made her mark on the program with over 55 victories. Lundgren is a prime example of how hard work and dedication truly do pay off.

“Danica continues to improve each year in her game and it has been a joy to see someone develop all along our player pathway,” said Hutton. “Our program is designed to capture a junior at a young age and then let them enjoy all the programs along the way, and Danica has done just that!”

In addition to her impressive resume with the STPGA, Lundgren participated in the Drive Chip & Putt National Finals in 2018 and has been very involved with the First Tee of Greater Austin. She volunteers and has a tremendous relationship with the entire staff that runs one of the most successful First Tee Chapters in the country!

With all these qualities and more, we are proud to call Danica Lundgren the girl Junior Golfer of the Year!

The Junior Golfers of the Year will be formally presented with their honors during the STPGA’s 56th Annual Awards Banquet on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Lakeway Resort & Spa.
